Seasonal Overview

Spring (late March – late June): A time of transition. Some roads and facilities begin to open in April and May, but snow and ice may linger. Wildlife is active, and wildflowers bloom. Crowds are lighter than in summer.
Summer (late April – early November): Peak season. All park roads and most facilities are open. Expect the largest crowds, especially in July and August. Ideal for hiking, sightseeing, and ranger-led programs. Average highs: 70–80°F (21–27°C).
Fall (late September – late October): Cooler weather and beautiful autumn colors. Visitor numbers drop, making for a quieter experience. Some facilities and roads begin to close as winter approaches.
Winter (early November – late March): Most park roads close to regular vehicles due to snow. The North Entrance (Gardiner, MT) remains open year-round, providing access to Mammoth Hot Springs and Lamar Valley. Winter activities include snowcoach and snowmobile tours, cross-country skiing, and snowshoeing. Services are limited.

April 18, 2025: North and West Entrances open for the summer season (weather permitting).
